A Call to Truth
When self is sacrificed for a higher good
Is when you’re actually free
When you have something or someone, you’d risk it all for
Prepared to die for
Is when you’re free
When you no longer fear death
When you no longer just live for self
When the ego has been reigned it
And kept in check
Is when you are free
Living for self and selfish desires
Imprisons the soul
And the ego becomes your tyrannical master
You live to please the world and others
Want to be like others
It is paradoxical but true
It is in giving that we receive
It is in losing ourselves that we find ourselves
It is by becoming lost that we are found
It is in falling that we rise
And in failures that we find success
Today’s world of materialism
And the pursuit of selfish goals and ambitions
Have hardened our hearts and destroyed our souls
The character becomes blunted
Un-nurtured, it dies
Man is nothing without character
But an empty hollow shell
Our world of remote-control gadgets
Fast cars
Instant coffee
Speed dating and high-speed trains
Have deluded us into thinking that short cuts
And searching for the easiest or quickest route
Is the best way
We trade our integrity and health for wealth and comfort
And the pursuits of vacuous pleasures
But there’s no substitute for character
No price too high for freedom
And nothing nobler than truth
There’s no elevator to success
We have to take the stairs
The spiritual laws of nature
They don’t ever change
