Call Someone

Call Someone

It’s been a few weeks here in the US and more elsewhere of social distancing, stay at home, and, well, isolation.

Many of us are with those we love or friends. We have a thriving social life we’ve translated online through the seeming miracles of Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Hangouts, FaceTime, and so many other tools. There are virtual dinners, virtual happy hours, and virtual dance parties. This is working.

Except when it’s not.

There are untold millions ‘staying at home’ alone. They’re in their second or third week. They’re not reaching out to anyone. Some need support with getting basic necessities. Some are losing their jobs. Others fear they will. They may be lonely or depressed. Their lives are upside down and it’s been so sudden.

So one suggestion: reach out. To someone you love. To someone you like. To someone you know. Think hard who might be alone and reach out to them to say, ‘I was just thinking of you.'

You won’t regret it. No act of generosity, especially now, is too small.

Absolutely spot-on Bracken. Have been in conversions with my social worker friends who are fighting other collateral effects in terms of food shortages for people in 10s of thousands, those alone and our outreach friends. It's heartening to hear people say "I'm glad you got in touch, I was thinking of you too". Thank you for inspiring.

Patrick Mullikin good share. My youngest and I did that all day Saturday. It gave us an oppty to connect with our NoCal family and talk with familiar faces.

You're right Bracken. It's important to also remember the people who don't or can't use social networking to stay in touch with people they love. It's amazing how happy a call will make someone.
