CALL FOR REFORM IN HEALTHCARE OF PARKINSON'S DISEASE - PLEASE SUPPORT

A group of us more independent minded and research trained people with Parkinson's Disease or Neurological Damage diagnoses ourselves or in the family [including myself, Mark Jessup, David Spry, Penny Mitchell, Karen Raphael, David Ponsonby] have been having a Big Discussion in the Parkinson's Disease Fighters United (PDFU) Think Tank. What has arisen is that there is now an absolute mountain of scientific researched evidence in the literature {so very much so that even between us, we can't even begin to digest it all} that there is a very strong causal effect of viral vectors and [gut] bacterial infections resulting in the presentation of symptoms which doctors are currently calling "Parkinson's Disease" or "Parkinsonisms". For myself, reading only a very small portion of this science and research literature, I am utterly convinced that viruses and bacteria are prima facea factors in many (if not all) types of PD (and, I suspect, beyond into MS, Alzheimer's, etc). Again, I am overwhelmed by the depth and breadth of evidence supportng this.

In fact this is a "no brainer". We know that Lymes Disease - a viral infection spread by tick bites - presents with Parkinson-like symptoms - and very, very often this is being mistakenly diagnosed as PD. So it does not take much of a cognitive leap to believe that other viruses can also present with some of the wide spectrum of different symptoms, all of which are being blanket-labelled as Parkinson's currently. Also, all the modern scientific descriptions of PD, supported by a large amount of detailed studies, incorporate the concept that Parkinson's can and does begin in the gut, with microbial factors the major factor, which later spreads to the brain.

What we can be absolutely certain, now, is that the concept that PD is simply a "brain disease", and that it therefore comes squarely under the heading "Neurology", is so out of date and out of line with known factors and with the science of they day, that to treat it exclusively as such is, indeed, quackery. This mean that for our healthcare system to put us under neurologists, when the brain damage aspect is now so clearly understood to be an effect not a cause, is simply inappropriate and wrong.

Indeed, since we now know that "Parkinson's Disease" is such a systemic biological issue, it can no longer be claimed - or properly treated - by any one particluar Speciality.

I am therefore calling for urgent reform to the treatment of people diagnosed with Parkinson's-like symptoms in our healthcare system. In particular, that the standard divisive Specialist system should no longer be applied, and that instead our treatment should be seen as a "Team Sport" of healthcare professionals all working together and in full collaborative mode, not just to treat the disease, but to start easing our suffering too.
