The call no one wants, the service everyone does

It’s the call no one wants. I still remember it with vivid clarity.?My husband and I were walking Memorial Park in Houston when my phone rang. It was my aunt with whom we’re both very close.

“Hi Jenna… [long pause] … I’m calling to tell you… [long pause] … I have cancer.”

My world stopped. Stunned, heartbroken, full of questions, and desperately wanting to say the right thing; somehow the conversation progressed. We learned she had a rare form of cancer and would be going in for further testing. As the days went by there were lots of phone calls and things to navigate. At the top was questioning whether the diagnosis was correct or the course of treatment was the best possible option.

I texted a group of Gallagher colleagues and within seconds I had consultants jumping in to help. The internal noise and anxiety went away and was replaced with a handful of concrete options for second opinion, care coordination, and concierge services.?

Over the next few weeks, consultants and our vendor partners continued to circle back with updates and to check in on our experience. Instead of feeling alone, my aunt felt taken care of. She had clarity and a new-found comfort in trusting her treatment protocol.

Fast forward two years later and I’m happy to report my aunt is in remission and living a full life. She remains grateful to the service provided by Gallagher.
