A Call to Lead with Frances Frei is live! Learn from the TED Talk superstar, professor at Harvard Business School, and former executive at Uber

We’re just two episodes into my new podcast, A Call to Lead, and the response has been incredible. From the downloads to the comments and feedback, I’m thrilled people are enjoying listening as much as I enjoy recording them.

For the third episode, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with my friend Frances Frei, whose resume is one of the most impressive of anyone I know. She’s a TED Talk superstar (check out her talk here), a professor at Harvard Business School, an author, and a former executive at Uber. The best part about Frances is that, at her core, she’s a teacher - so in her storytelling and lessons she teaches you about yourself and unlocks different ways of looking at the future.

You can listen to the full episode now, and while you do, here are five takeaways from my conversation with Frances:

1. Learn more than you have to so you can describe topics simply, especially if you’re the one tasked with ensuring people understand something difficult. Simplicity is a gift. (15:52)

2. Want to understand why so many bad things are happening in our world right now? We need to find a way to trust each other again. Most of our challenges stem from a lack of trust. (17:41)

3. If companies want to compete against the world's best, they need to look at hiring from a much wider pool of talent. It's diversity that will unleash our best. Until recently, everyone has been fishing in a very narrow pond. (23:15)

4. Don’t deny your ego. Find out what it needs, be upfront and explicit about those needs, and work with your team to make sure you get what you need. Everyone has an ego that needs to be nourished. (35:00)

5. Millennials have an incredible threshold for what they will endure. They’re similar to one another, but very different from past generations...and they’re exactly what we need right now. And their time for leadership is not in the distant future, it’s here now. (38:07)

I appreciate all your reactions and feedback, so please rate and review A Call to Lead so we can improve it as we go! Tweet or DM me with questions or comments: @JenniferBMorgan and #acalltolead or e-mail us at [email protected].
