The GIZ-FABRIC project seeks innovative solutions to address the post-industrial textile waste challenge in Cambodia.

The Challenge

Cambodia's burgeoning textile industry faces a significant challenge: managing and minimizing post-industrial waste. This waste not only poses environmental and health risks but also represents a missed opportunity for economic growth and job creation.

The Opportunity

We are looking for forward-thinking proposals that will:

• Reduce environmental impact:?Divert textile waste from landfills and waterways, promoting sustainable practices throughout the textile value chain.
• Foster a circular economy:?Transform waste into valuable resources, closing the loop and creating new economic opportunities.
• Empower the informal sector:?Enhance the capacity and livelihoods of individuals and micro-enterprises involved in textile waste collection and management.
• Promote social responsibility:?Ensure fair working conditions and ethical practices throughout the waste management process.

The Proposals

We welcome proposals in the following areas:

• Textile waste valorization:?Develop innovative technologies or processes to convert textile waste into new materials or products.
• Advanced recycling and upcycling:?Design creative and commercially viable solutions for recycling and upcycling post-industrial textiles.
• Waste prevention strategies:?Advocate for circularity in garment production and implement initiatives to minimize waste generation at the source.
• Capacity building for the informal sector:?Provide training, resources, and support to empower enterprises and workers involved in textile waste management.
• Transparency and traceability: Increase data collection and transparency around waste data, waste transactions and/or waste management practices.
• Corporate Responsibility, ESG, Compliance: Undertake activities and initiatives that increase the sustainability of the textile waste management sector and the associated garment supply chain actors.

We encourage submissions from a diverse range of stakeholders, including:

• Private enterprises, entrepreneurs and textile manufacturers
• Industry associations and research institutions
• Consulting firms and technology providers
• Non-governmental organizations and community groups
• Government agencies and development partners

Benefits of Participation

• Funding and support:?Selected proposals could receive financial and technical assistance (e.g. for capacity building, research studies, compliance etc.) from GIZ FABRIC to implement their projects.
• Partnership with GIZ-FABRIC who has extensive experience in sustainable development and textile waste management.
• Make a tangible difference in addressing a critical environmental and social challenge in Cambodia.
• Recognition and visibility:?Showcase your innovative solutions to a global audience and gain valuable recognition for your work.

Submission and Timeline

? Proposals (in Khmer or English) should not be longer than 5 pages document or 2500 words.

Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

• Innovation and originality of the proposed solution
• Integration and cooperation of diverse partners/stakeholders (i.e. shared responsibility)
• Feasibility and sustainability of the project
• Potential impact on environmental, economic, and social aspects, especially positive impacts on workers
• Scalability and replicability of the solution
• Qualifications and experience of the proposing team
