About the Journal

The Pacific-Basin Finance Journal (PBFJ) is a leading scholarly publication dedicated to the advancement of finance knowledge primarily (but not exclusively) pertaining to the Pacific Basin region. We publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research that addresses significant financial issues affecting this dynamic and rapidly evolving area. Notably, PBFJ has adopted major ground-breaking initiatives aligned with Responsible Science – predominantly, through publishing replications, pre-registered reports and pre-registered studies.

AE Position Overview

We are seeking multiple qualified candidates for the role of Associate Editor (AE). These voluntary and unpaid AE positions involve collaborating with the editorial team to oversee the peer review process, contribute to editorial decisions, and uphold the journal's commitment to scholarly excellence. The AE roles will begin 1st January 2025, with a 3-year duration, and with the potential for renewal in cases of stellar performance over the initial appointment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manuscript Management: Oversee the review process for assigned manuscripts within your area(s) of expertise, managing up to 20 new manuscripts per annum.
  • Reviewer Coordination: Identify, invite and monitor suitable reviewers, ensuring timely and constructive feedback.
  • Editorial Decision-Making: Provide recommendations based on reviewer comments and your own assessment.
  • Strategic Contribution: Assist in developing editorial policies and strategies to enhance the journal's impact.
  • Community Engagement: Promote the journal at academic conferences and through professional networks.

Qualifications, Expertise and Experience

  • A PhD in Finance, Economics, or a closely related field.
  • A strong record of scholarly publications in highly reputable academic journals.
  • Expertise in topics relevant to the Pacific-Basin financial markets.
  • Previous experience as a reviewer or editorial board member is advantageous.
  • Previous experience as a published author and reviewer at PBFJ is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  1. Cover Letter (2 pages): Outline your interest in the position & summarize your relevant experience, highlighting 3 or more primary areas of finance expertise that you could patrol.
  2. Micro Curriculum Vitae (2 pages): Include your educational background, Top 10 publications, and your editorial and/or reviewing experience. Provide links to your personal website showcasing your work if available.
  3. References: Provide contact information for two professional referees.
