A call for courage

A call for courage

As conscious and values-driven leaders, we are being called to choose courage in the face, but will we choose it?

In this post-election week, values-driven leaders are being called to courageusly look at the choices we have to make in the coming weeks, months, and years.

You know your values. You have them written down, listed on your website, utilizing them as your GPS.

But values are not a synonym listacal but rather demonstrated actions others can feel in your presence.

If you value honesty, are you being transparent?

If you value courage, are you choosing the brave choice over the comfortable choice?

If you value inclusion, are you inclusive for some or all?

We are standing at the threshold of opportunity to lead our values out loud in the face of uncertainty, fear, and resistance.

For those us willing to choose courage, how will we prioritize humanity in our own spaces and spheres of influence?

And if we waiver,

No matter how you're feeling post-election, I want to call us in to a moment of honoring our feelings, honoring our humanity, and to remind us me included, that trauma informed care is of the utmost importance right now.

Because what's happening in America is a trauma response.

When we have an absence of consent, choice and self-determination, the wounding is going to be stressful.

Depending on the context of where, how, and who is limiting or taking away your consent, choice, or self-determination, that wounding can be so deep that it is traumatic.

Keep this in mind because, those wounds are newly happening or they're being reopened or deepening because of this election.

Our collective nervous system dysregulated for many reasons. We are unable to be responsive because we are reactive.

We can choose to lead a trauma informed, resilience focused, anti-oppressive, human centered life. But we have to choose it and that choice may be hard in the coming months, years.

Read my recent article in Medium about why everyone's talking about trauma and why leaders should listen.

And it may feel futile. It may feel challenging. And it may even feel unsafe. And I want to invite us in to pause and as Crystal Whiteaker former podcast guest and dear colleague says "pause, but don't quit".

If we are hearing the call for courage, before you act, pause.

Take time to resource yourself so you have more capacity tos how up for the long game.

One of our biggest mistakes we make as leaders is functioning from the wrong understnading of resilience.

Resilience is our capacity to cope and adapt when stress and adversity arise.

We build and nurture resilience by resourcing our nervous system.

Resilience is relational.

We cannot build it or use it alone.

If you are resonating or you’re noticing it in others, know there’s a longstanding, resilience roadmap to move forward with integrity, sustainability and collaboration.

It all starts with opting for curiosity and becoming trauma-aware.

If you are taking the call for courage, I invite you to join the groundswell of us raising trauma-awareness.
