Call for Collaboration to help the Unsung Heroes of Singapore

Behind Singapore’s impressive growth story, there are close to 1 million migrant workers who help daily to make it happen. Migrant workers build the world’s best airport, skyscrapers, roads, and ensure the city-state is one of the cleanest. They are the unsung heroes of Singapore.

COVID-19 is having devastating effects in many countries, cities, neighbourhoods and communities. In Singapore, the migrant worker community has been particularly affected with high infection numbers. Living conditions indeed have not helped, but exacerbated the spread of the coronavirus.

While it may take a while for things to fundamentally change and proper policies and living conditions to be put into place to improve the lives of the unsung heroes, it has been heartwarming to see the overwhelming support that private companies, NGOs, non-profits, individuals and the Government have been coming up with.

But the support available is indeed overwhelming to the point that migrant workers may not really know about the help that is available to them. Language, for eg, is a barrier when accessing official information sources. Not all migrant workers can read English.

So, we want to tackle this problem.

I’m proud that GlobalSign. In is partnering with NVPC and IMDA to use Tech for Good to ensure migrant workers know their rights and readily have access to information and help that they need.

We are inviting other tech companies to join in to help. There is a challenge prize money. So, you get paid for the work done. You can find more information about the challenge here.

We are also going to have a live session to go into more details during IMDA’s Innovation Thursday 21-May at 2pm SGT. You may join us to find out more. Simply register here:

During this session NVPC is also going to share about other challenges where you are able to use Tech to Innovate for Social Good.
