The Call
The Call can change your life! What exactly does that mean you might ask? I’m talking about the “Recruiting Call.” In the recruiting world it means everything, it’s the heart of our business. It’s the process of sourcing top talent for companies and of helping people find their next great job. People take The Call for granted. Some are annoyed by it, hang up on it, but a good percentage of the time they will listen, just to see what it could be about.
I’ve been a professional Recruiter for almost 23 years, and I know first-hand about The Call. The organization I work for made The Call to me when I was a young Plant Manager. I took The Call out of curiosity, and admittedly it changed my life. By taking The Call, I was able to meet two world class Recruiting Legends who became my mentors in the recruiting business. They invited me to join their organization and now almost 23 years later, I’m still here, doing what I love.
I’ve been fortunate to have helped hundreds of people over those 22+ years, all because I made The Call. That initial phone call led to a chain of events that changed their lives for the better.
Additionally, The Call has resulted in a tremendous benefit to the companies I place professionals at. These impact players have driven revenue, transformed organizations, solved major problems, and have been promoted up the line.

A recent example is a conversation I had this week with a President I placed last year. I was conducting a confidential retained search for an automotive supplier and my client was extremely particular in what they were looking for in their next President. ?I presented three candidates; a referral candidate, a candidate I had known for several years, and a candidate I cold called.
The candidate I had cold called was gainfully employed as a VP of Operations, doing well and reasonably happy. When I made The Call, I was able to get through and leave a voicemail. He actually listened to it, (people checking voicemail is quite rare these days) and called back. He was intrigued with my proposition, so we decided to have a video call to discuss further. He admitted he would never reach the President level in his current organization, which was his ultimate career goal, thus his motivation for making a change. He was a perfect fit and I placed him in the position!
He called this week to recap his first year in the job and discussed the significant amount of new business and revenue growth they have achieved, all while communicating with the workforce in a way that hadn’t happened before. His passion and excitement for what they are doing is just amazing and I was so happy to hear how well things have gone for both him & the organization.
He ended our conversation by saying: “Your call changed my life. I can’t thank you enough for reaching out. It’s funny how a simple phone call led to my dream job.” He also commented the advice he gives to other professionals he knows, “When a Recruiter calls you, take The Call! It can really change your life.”
I have countless stories like this that motivate me to do what I do. Having a positive impact on someone’s life, their career, their family…it’s so incredible and it all starts with The Call.
