A Call to Action for Power System Solutions by Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) & Mission Innovation (MI)

The Agenda for Action, launched at the Ministerial Roundtable for Power Sector Transformation with 28 CEM and MI member signatories at Brazil, address the gaps in investment in power sector infrastructure to ensure clean, resilient, affordable power and to meet global decarbonization goals.

The Call to Action will help make progress towards the global goals of tripling of renewable energy and doubling energy efficiency by 2030.

The forum recognized the importance of accelerating transitions toward a sustainable energy future and the central importance of electrification and, therefore, power sector infrastructure to that objective.

Agenda for Action Summary:

  • Improve Planning and Investment Certainty:

Help countries plan and invest in advanced power systems and grid tools. Share regulatory solutions to reduce carbon emissions in the power sector. Provide expert assistance and technical knowledge for clean energy planning.

  • Support Modernizing and Expanding Grids:

Share knowledge on advanced grid and smart grid technology. Conduct studies on smart grids for resilient and flexible power infrastructures., Promote funding for grid modernization projects.

  • Unlock Power System Flexibility:

Promote solutions for power systems to quickly respond to supply and demand changes. Increase awareness of challenges and opportunities in deploying flexibility solutions. Support capacity building and technical assistance for flexible electricity systems.

  • Deploy E-Mobility Infrastructure:

Include e-mobility demands in national power sector planning. Advance collaboration for successful e-mobility infrastructure deployment and finance. Support developing countries with e-mobility infrastructure deployment.

  • Strengthen Energy Supply Chain Resilience and Sustainability:

Explore policy solutions to diversify supply chains for clean power components. Enhance coordination efforts across value chains for clean power sector components.

  • Advance a Just and Inclusive Transition:

Support workforce development and equity in power system transformation. Provide insights on economic impacts from power system solutions in developing countries. Share knowledge and best practices for clean power priorities in developing countries.
