Like many, the events unfolding across the country have struck a chord. Not the fact that racism and brutal policing exist… It’s that the protests while necessary, are not enough.
We must harness that passion and energy to not only demand immediate changes in policing, but we also must get out and VOTE! VOTE in the national election this fall, VOTE in the state-wide elections every cycle, and VOTE in the local and special elections every time there is one. Far too often the local officials who are satisfied with the status quo run unopposed.
We have to support candidates who not only say they want to change the abhorrent behavior by the police, vigilantes, and hate groups, we have to VOTE for the candidate who will use their power to enact legislation that will improve public education for the children living in the city… with many being pushed to home schooling due to COVID-19, folks are waking up to the challenges that teachers face every day. Teachers are professionals, so let’s treat them that way. VOTE for the officials that will support spending more on the healthcare programs that are desperately needed to eliminate the disparities that diseases like COVID-19 take advantage of, instead of those that spend their time trying to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. VOTE, VOTE, VOTE
To all the allies that have traveled in from the suburbs to show your support and acknowledge that #BlackLivesMatter, THANK YOU… Now, VOTE for the officials who will write, support, sign, and enact legislation that will help the community instead of those that want to find tax cuts that will grow your bank account. VOTE, VOTE, VOTE

Congratulations Mike for being promoted as Chief Diversity Officer for entire GE !! Well said! We need to exercise our right to VOTE to the right leader who will follow through write, support, sign, and enact legislation!
The article is excellent. The comments show how far we have to go. “All lives matter” shows the lack of awareness or lack of interest in understanding the experiences of black people in this country. The irony - great it is - is that we have to invest time and energy in building the resilience and understanding (fragility-busting) of white people to make systemic change.

4 年I just love how so many African Americans assume that if their peers vote more they are going to vote Trump out. Yet the closer we get to elections the more African Americans I see speaking out about how they hate what is happened to our country and Trump is the one to fix it. I do hope people show up to vote and prove that the Democrats do not own the black vote just like they did not own people all those years ago when they were The pro slavery party!
