The amazing response to the Gardener[1] metaphor has shown that internal auditors want more and want to break free from dogmatic auditing mindsets. We identified the need for practical guidelines to building and maintaining effective internal audit functions and are positive that this book will foster a notion in internal auditors and its stakeholders’ minds that the internal audit function should and can be an indispensable value adding partner, a strategic advisor[2]. This book challenges legacy wisdom and explores what is beyond “objectivity” and “independence” and sees the value and potential in better understanding the behavioral dimension of our profession in the corporate governance ecosystem.
