Calgary's Live Music Scene

I was laid off in March from the one "real job" I've ever had. Working with Stagehand.app for 3 1/2 years, allowed me to become deeply involved in Calgary's music scene. I discovered there are many people with high level positions, who are passionate about music and want to see the city become more vibrant by having live music everywhere.

In my role with Stagehand, I wore many hats:

-I did research on the issues plaguing the music industry in Alberta and made recommendations on how to solve them.

-I was a sales person, selling software as a service.

-I was active in discovering new artists and helping veterans get up to speed with the Stagehand software.

-I discovered and programmed spaces for musical acts to perform in. -I acted as the liason between artists and administrators.

-I was a problem solver and offered creative solutions.

-I performed my one-man band act.

-I did whatever was required, to the best of my ability.

Probably my greatest achievement was when I teamed up with former Music Mile president Meg Van Rosendaal and created "Busking on the Mile". This program won a national Business for the Arts Award for community impact. It helped in forging new relationships between Music Mile and Calgary's East Village and Central Library. It also helped put money in the pockets of musicians during the pandemic shut down.

Now I'm back to being a full time musician. It's what I've done for over 30 years. After losing my one "real job", I feel fortunate to have my music to fall back on. In 2019 I released my first Children's recording. I didn't get a chance to promote it the way I wanted to, the pandemic got in the way of that. I'm keen to get back to performing more. I'd also be keen to take the skills and connections I've made over the past 4 years to help Calgary to become the Music City it seems to want to be. I'm not sure what that role would look like, but as a self made man, I'd be happy to explore any opportunities that could use my skill set.

I've been in Calgary for 27 years. It's an awesome place and I'm happy to live here. So many people have fond memories of seeing me perform at various places around the city. I hear about it often.

If I can make it a better place for artists, than when I got here, that would make me very happy. #yyc #yycliving #yyclocal #yycjobs
