With the Calder Cup Playoffs Incoming, Ontario Turns Reign into Fire

With just 13 games left in the 2019-2020 season, the Ontario Reign look to make their entrance into the Calder Cup Playoffs a no-doubter.

Through the Reign's last nine games, they have played exceptionally well, taking eight of them in the "W" column. Though these games have been spread out over the All-Star break and changes in the starting lineup and roster, the team's focus remains on what is truly important: winning it all. And even though this is often said, the fire lit under the team could have not come at a better time.

The American Hockey League is comprised of just four divisions, with only the top four teams in each division getting the opportunity to compete in the playoffs. For those who do not watch hockey too often, standings goes off the points category which the team earns through wins, overtime, and shootout competitions.

As of today, these are the standings within Ontario's Pacific Division. As you can tell, without the Reign's sudden tear, they would have dropped out of a playoff spot. Although it is still close, and will likely remain this way until near April, the boys in black will have to avoid leaving games without points. If Ontario were to drop three games while San Diego won, that alone takes them out of the picture.

Coming down to the last games, the team and fans are confident in a playoff run as the Reign are on their hottest streak of the year beating Bakersfield, Stockton, and San Diego. This upcoming week proves to be significantly important, with two games against the 3rd place, Colorado Eagles. If the Reign win both games, they not only rise further above the teams below them, but take third and possibly second place as well.

This Sunday, the Reign will need all the support they can get. And what better than to come to Ontario's Stanley Cup Sunday, take a picture with the cup, and watch the Ontario Reign solidify their playoff spot!
