Calculate fields and totals in D365FO

Always wanted to calculate in fields of D365FO? Or want totals of numeric columns in your D365FO screen? Today I had time to write about some nice functionalities of the ‘New grid control’ feature, added by Microsoft in October 2019:

When you activate this feature you get new grid functionality in D365FO. By example it is possible then to calculate in fields. Like in the general journal line you enter ‘=5+8’ in the debit field to calculate:

One tab to the next field and the result of the calculation will be shown:

Also you can right click on column headers of numeric columns and click on ‘Total this column’, by example in the open vendor invoices screen for the column 'Amount not settled':

Result is that the total will be shown in the D365FO screen:

When you open this screen later again, the total still exist.

When the feature 'New grid control' is enabled, you also can activate the feature ‘Freezing columns in grid’, added by Microsoft in March 2021:

This feature enables functionality where you can freeze a column in a screen. With this option the columns appear at the front of the grid and do not scroll out of view:
