"Cake, Champagne & Culture", Afternoon Tea delights celebrating 200 years of biscuit heritage in Reading

As part of the #BiscuitTown2022 programme, celebrating 200 years of biscuit heritage in Reading, The Roseate Reading - Roseate Hotels & Resorts humbly and delightfully launched a historic-themed Afternoon Tea, inspired by the legendary bakery brand Huntley & Palmers. The official launch ceremony was hosted at The Reading Room Restaurant and Bar.

Cllr Rachel Eden , Mayor of Reading, and around 50 honourable guests attended, including Roseate’s business partners, Reading's community representatives, and local influencers.

Executive Chef Rajesh maharjan and his team at The Reading Room curated an Afternoon Tea menu by taking inspiration from Huntley & Palmers' signature biscuits.

The “strawberry mousse, Breton coconut and ginger biscuit” cake was inspired by Huntley & Palmers’ ginger and coconut “Nice” biscuit.

The “rich dark chocolate, hazelnut praline tart, coffee gel and chocolate biscuit crumbs”, was inspired by Huntley & Palmers’ “Olivers” biscuit.

The beautiful cakes were accompanied by a fine selection of freshly made sandwiches and homemade scones served with Cornish clotted cream and strawberry jam.

‘‘In 1822, Huntley & Palmers biscuits began as a small baker’s shop in London Street, Reading and became a famous global brand over a span of 40 years. The Afternoon Tea inspired by Huntley & Palmers is available every day from 12:30-4:30pm at The Reading Room. Guests can choose to indulge themselves in an Al-Fresco dining experience at the Secret Garden, or in the elegant setting of the restaurant.
