Cairo: a bright idea
Waiting for your ride in the dark can be unnerving. In a recent survey conducted in Cairo, Egypt, around 70% of respondents told inDrive that they feel uncomfortable or scared waiting in dark areas of the city at night, and close to 95% agreed that having a lit area as a pick-up point would make them feel “slightly” to “very” comfortable.?
So, for Ramadan – a time when many people travel after dark – inDrive installed specially designed light boxes as billboards in several poorly lit locations. These included Maadi, Giza, New Cairo and Mokattam, all destinations that are popular with our users in Egypt.
The billboards lit up the surrounding street, making it easy for passengers to see their driver, the number plate, and the inside of the car. For drivers, the advantage lay in being able to easily locate and see their passengers. As such, the billboards served as great pick-up and drop-off venues, as well as excellent meeting points for friends waiting to travel together. In fact, they were so visually striking that several local celebrities included them in their videos!?
