The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) today announced a significant increase in prize money for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2024. The winner of the tournament will now receive a substantial USD 3.5 million, a 75% increase from previous editions.
This boost underscores CAF's dedication to enhancing the value and competitiveness of the CHAN, a platform that showcases the talents of Africa-based players. The total prize money for the tournament has also been increased to USD 10.4 million, a 32% rise, further incentivizing participation and rewarding excellence.
The CHAN Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2024 kicks off on February 1st, 2025, with the final scheduled for February 28th. Seventeen nations have already secured their spots, with two more to qualify from the remaining matches. The tournament draw will take place on January 15th, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi.
This significant increase in prize money is a major step forward for the CHAN, elevating its status and further solidifying its position as a key event on the African football calendar.
