Caelestian for a day!
On Thursday 20th October, I worked at #Caeleste on the occasion of the #youca22. YOUCA is an organization that lets students of the fifth year of secondary school work in a company of their choice for one day to earn money for a #charity. This year’s charity is #Rikolto, an organization that helps the youth in Burkina Faso, Uganda and Ecuador realize their ideas on how to make food production more sustainable.
I have had a few interviews with some employees of #Caeleste and this is what they taught me:
The love for engineering already develops itself during childhood. Imagine playing with bricks or doing some experiments to see what the result is. An open mind and lots of curiosity make you discover many things. The support of your relatives also plays an important role in your future development and choices.
A specific interest in electronics and technology is needed when you decide on becoming an engineer. During high school, this feeling will grow and help you make the right decision in the future.
The more you try and the broader you keep your interests, the easier you will be able to decide which expertise interests you most.
The #multinational employees of Caeleste have studied in diverse countries. They showed me it doesn’t matter in which country or from which university you get your degree in the end. Most important is that you need to have enough #interest and #passion to do the studies and that you are not afraid of trial and error. It is even recommended to do part of your studies in one school and another part in a different school in order to develop a trajectory of your own needs and interests. Make sure you have had the opportunity to discover as much as possible in the field of #electronics before you decide on your specialization while studying an #Engineering Master. The expertise in #microelectronics is less known amongst students and requires background in different fields of engineering. It would be a good idea to introduce this topic already in high school and not only during your bachelor studies.
During the interview I noticed that the feeling of #participation, #addedvalue and making a difference in the world, is what drives engineers in their job every day. Being an engineer also means being #proud of yourself and not being afraid of failing.
An advantage of working with Caeleste is that you can #contribute to society through #space projects or projects in #medical and #industrial applications. You are part of the whole process, from development to execution.
The day I spent in Caeleste was very educational. The employees showed me their passion for micro-electronics and what their job is about. The #YOUCA Action Day was definitely an interesting experience that taught me a lot.
