Cadillac is the only premium brand to show positive sales dynamics in H1 2020 in Russia (+16.8%)

According to the Autostat website, Cadillac is the only premium automotive brand that shows positive sales dynamics in the first half of 2020 in Russia (+16.8%).

Sales results of other 13 premium brands were negative. The biggest slump had Smart (-89.3%). Infiniti fell almost threefold (-65.2%) and Jaguar decreased by half (-49.3%). Over 30% of last year's volumes lost Genesis (-36.9%), Volvo (-35.7%), Jeep (-34.4%). Land Rover sales decreased by 29.1%. Four German premium brands (Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi) recorded a slump in sales in the range from 10% to 20%. The minimal decrease had Lexus and MINI (8%).

These great results would not have been possible without the well-coordinated and efficient work of the General Motors Russia team that provides effective activities and continues to introduce innovative solutions and supports dealers and suppliers remotely. 

Also to note is the incredible professionalism of the official Cadillac dealers in Russia, who promptly responded to all the changes and were able to maintain premium customer service despite the quarantine and self-isolation regime.

The success is associated as well with the launch of our two new models – the updated mid-size crossover XT5 and our completely new full-size crossover XT6. Due to the significantly reduced tax burden and well-equipped basic configuration of both models, they have rightfully become sales drivers for the first quarter of the year. The new two-liter engine with effective torque provides for high dynamics and optimizes efficiency. Basic configuration of the both models already includes an impressive array of the most advanced safety and comfort systems, that operate using radar, cameras and ultrasonic sensors.

New online reservation and purchase system launched in April 2020 also contributed to the results reached, as long with the interactive format of the Cadillac Live presentation.

I love the spin. Cadillac's absolute volume is only 515 units versus Mercedes (16k units), BMW (17k units) and Lexus (8K units). Not sure if the percentage increase is worth celebrating given its driven by introduction of new products by Cadillac to the Russian market. Internally, only GM would know their targeted sales volume and whether the performance was better or worse than their plans and expectations. For analyzing data, context is always very important.
