Cabot: Canada's New National Treasure?
As some of you know, I left my corporate job in Calgary and am in the midst of a cross Canada trek to Inverness, Nova Scotia to caddie for the summer. If you're a golfer, you may have heard of Cabot Links and it's new sister course, Cabot Cliffs.
There's something special about golf in Canada right now. Not only do we have a rock solid contingent of pros shooting the lights on tour (Adam Hadwin, Graeme DeLaet, Brooke Henderson, Jared DuToit, Nick Taylor, Mackenzie Hughes), we have the best new golf course in the world according to Golf Digest... That being, Cabot Cliffs!
When a course hasn't been open for a full season of play and yet it's already drawing comparisons to Cypress Point and Bandon Dunes, you know it must be special. Here are some of my favorite links detailing the Cabot experience and its history:
- Matt Ginella of the Golf Channel bringing you the story of Mike Keiser's vision: https://www.golfchannel.com/video/mike-keiser-bandon-dunes-and-cabot-links/
- Josh Sens of Golf.com sharing his Cabot experience: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIRPD9g4fjw
- If you're more of a reader, here is James McCarten of the National Post explaining why the golf world has fallen the Cliffs course: https://news.nationalpost.com/life/travel/already-smitten-with-canadas-cabot-links-the-golf-world-has-fallen-for-cabot-cliffs-heres-why
- When Kiefer Sutherland does your infomercials for you, well that's just pretty darn cool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THVlPhl_G-I (you may recognize these views from Lotto 649 ads...)
- Not to sell the rest of Cape Breton short, there are a lot of other great courses on the island: https://golfcapebreton.com/
As a caddie this summer, I hope to be a great ambassador for Mr. Keiser & Mr. Cowan-Dewar's vision of Cabot becoming a national treasure of this beautiful country we call home. The town of Inverness and province of Nova Scotia should be very proud (in the most Canadian way possible) of their gift to the golf world! A world-class golf experience awaits for the great folks coming from around the world to play Canada's new #1 course.
If you're convinced to head to Inverness this summer and experience Cabot, drop me a line. I'd love to caddie for you!
