It was a Thursday morning in Accra, I was traveling with my wife and child when a cab driver slammed into my car from the side.
I had just repaired my car for a similar error done by an 'okada' (motorcycle) rider so this cab driver’s accident really enraged me. Due to my prior experience, I wanted to involve the police right away to resolve the problem. Observers were simply waiting for my next move and others blamed the cab driver. Others begged for the cab driver as well. To be honest, I was furious and ready to angrily get out of my car to assess the extent of the damage.
I stepped out of my car, stunned by his conduct, not knowing what to do. Instead of examining the damage to my car and most likely exchanging information, the cab driver got out of his car and knelt in front of me on the roadway. He began apologizing and pleading for pardon.
"Begging will not fix the situation," I stated repeatedly. So I inquired whether I should involve the police or whether he was ready to foot the fee for repairs.
I simply stood there watching him plead and beg me not to involve his car owner or the police. He said that he was broke and that it was his first day on the job. While I sympathized with him, the situation grew tough to manage as he continued to plea and attract public sympathy.
I paid great attention to him. His clothes were grimy, and his car was in disrepair. I recognized that this man was in a quagmire and that I was fortunate that it was just my car that was damaged but that my gorgeous wife and child were unharmed. I made the decision to leave him alone and we parted ways.
It was a bizarre and frightening encounter that taught me that we never truly know what is going on in other people's lives. We all have troubles and issues, and we should constantly strive to be sympathetic and kind to others.
I'd want to know what you think about this situation. Do you believe that the cosmos is random or that everything happens for a reason?
