#C211 : When you stand by A National PTSD Framework in Canada- The Triumphs, The Trials and The Afterthought

Federal govt has finally tabled #C211 NATIONAL PTSD FRAMEWORK !

What does that mean?

It means they have formally formalized a detailed package about PTSD in Canada and what groups are specifically affected.

Part III of this formalized Framework is distinguishing the implementation.

Since 2016, I’ve been compassionately and actively supporting this now Legislative Law .

Originally the steps to this Framework geared towards First Responders, Military and Veterans.

As time went on, it was only at the last stage prior to becoming Legislative, that many other professionals wanted to be heard for this Bill.

Well happy to report you have been heard!

From Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans, Public Service ( 911, dispatcher, corrections, probation, parole), Health Care ( nurses, doctors , social workers etc) and Indigenous groups are now all included into this Framework.

So what happens next?

The Secretariat of this Act will now need to encourage dialogue with professionals, stakeholders to implement changes and to ensure no duplication ( another law/bill etc) is made .

So how do I feel?

You would think I would be elated over this but I’m not entirely there.

As a civilian, as Mental Health Professional , as a Spouse to a 911 family member- it means still there is a tremendous amount of work to be done. And when we hear work - it’s discouraging. But many need to know that making changes within government takes years!!!!

What the most unique thing about this - it was a Private Members Bill - a rare form of non-leading party bringing forth a bill to be heard- and it surpassed many barriers!

I’m still proud to have been standing by C211. It’s first of its kind Canada and even in the world! Those of us who stood by Todd, believed in this, travelled near and far - we were a part of history making and that something to be so proud of! It made me look at politics and lawmaking with an open lense. But it also made some forever Friends who just understood my 911 world.

One Of many group pictures - This one was significant as The Bill unanimously passed the House of Commons in June 2017.

This was a celebration pic with the one and only MP Todd Doherty who brought #C211 to light and Senator Leo Housakos, one of many Senators who pushed the Bill to become an Act. June 21, 2018 was a memorable moment for many of us - as #C211 - The National PTSD Framework of Canada became Law.
