C-TPAT Security Requirements Summary

The Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) is a voluntary supply chain security program that partners with businesses to help them secure their global supply chains. The program is administered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).


CTPAT Security Requirements

To participate in CTPAT, businesses must meet certain security criteria. These criteria include:

  • Procedural security: Implementing procedures to identify and assess risks, verify business partners, control access to facilities and cargo, and secure information.
  • Physical security: Implementing measures to protect facilities, cargo, and personnel from unauthorized access and threats.
  • Container and conveyance security: Implementing measures to secure containers and conveyances used to transport cargo.
  • Personnel security: Implementing measures to ensure that employees are trustworthy and have the necessary training to carry out their security responsibilities.
  • Agricultural security: Implementing measures to prevent the introduction of agricultural pests and diseases into the United States.
  • Cybersecurity: Implementing measures to protect information systems and data from unauthorized access and cyber threats.


Benefits of CTPAT Membership

Businesses that meet the CTPAT security criteria may be eligible for a number of benefits, including:

  • Reduced CBP examinations
  • Expedited processing at the border
  • Access to free and secure trade (FAST) lanes at the land borders
  • An assigned supply chain security specialist
