After years of thinking about the idea and six months of hard work, the tech build is complete but now the challenge is to provide value to the community – says the C-suite CEO and co-founder Dean Carroll
Launching an app feels like the culmination of a million man hours and a million tiny decisions, which hopefully lead to something greater than the sum of its parts. My C-suite co-founder, and COO, Don Tsai and I first started talking informally about the prospect back in January; although it has been percolating in my mind for some years now.
In June, I started on the project full time. Only in August did our CTO Alan Yudhahutama join us and start the tech build. He has done amazingly well to get the first iteration to market in a little over three months, thanks to fantastic UX support from our head of design Adam Nemeth. A herculean effort indeed. Hat doffed chaps.
So now it’s over to you guys in the C-suite community to tell us what you think. To repay you for jumping onboard early and following us, we wanted to gift you a discount code giving you 50% off a 12-month membership package. Just go to https://c-suite.sg/community and enter the discount code ‘earlyadopter’ when prompted by clicking on any of the content, once you have registered. This reduction will mean the entry-level membership is just $10 per month.
We hope it will help you, your business and even your industry to grow. Please do experiment with the professional matching and events, to expand your network & skill set. Plus you can create content and position yourself as an industry thought-leader. On top of that you can enjoy a mix of unique, user-generated and curated insights. Already in just a week or so, more than 150 high-profile members have joined the community in the app. Now the task for us is to provide game-changing value for you.
Of course, this is just C-suite version 1.0. In the future, we plan to build a jobs portal and marketplace where you can buy and sell executive services such as coaching and training – even enabling members to become trainers and create their own courses. Other possible features for the future under discussion include a professional concierge to help guide you through your lifetime learning journey. But do please reach out to me at [email protected] and tell me what features you’d like to see in the app.
Another experiment coming up is our first C-suite Collab virtual event on ‘Start-up fundraising: The hard truths you need to know during COVID-19’. It’s happening on December 10 at 7.30-9.30pm Singapore time.
Raising money for a start-up is a gargantuan task at the best of times. Doing so during a global pandemic is difficult beyond belief. So what do you need to do to impress angel investors, family offices and venture capitalists in these challenging times?
Our expert panel will tell you straight in this candid interactive session, which is designed to provide both the hard truths and some inspirational words of guidance. You will get to hear insights from all sides of the spectrum and ask questions of your own during this immersive free-form activation. If you’re a founder, you can even do a 60-second elevator pitch for your start-up and if an investor wants to match with you, C-suite will connect you up.
Among the topics of discussion will be valuations, user traction, revenue generation, the different fundraising models and the fundamentals investors want to see from those pitching to them; whether it be the vision, team, product-market fit, go-to-market plan, competitor mapping, financials or timeline. Plus we will ponder which sectors have sizzle right now and why. You can expect a fluid discussion not confined to the traditional structure or event norms.
So who is on the panel? Well, here they are:
Jeffrey Paine, Golden Gate Ventures managing partner
Belinda Ang, Arto founder & start-up mentor
Jag Singh, Techstars managing director
Steve Melhuish, Wavemaker partner & Property Guru founder
Mohan Belani, e27 CEO & founder
Christel Quek, Bolt co-founder & chief commercial officer
Fei Yao, New Campus co-founder
Parminder Singh, angel investor & Mediacorp chief commercial officer
Andrew Stott, investor & Stott Advisory CEO & founder
Ian Chapman-Banks, Sqreem Technologies CEO & co-founder
Daniel Walker, Zegal founder
Anastasia Evans, start-up founder on the Antler programme
Jiawen Ngeow, We Are Day One co-founder & angel investor
Andries de Vos, Slash Ventures CEO & co-founder
Meutia Adryana, STEB Asia co-founder & CEO
Be sure to register here if you’d like to attend. These free-form virtual events examine industry pain points faced by C-suite executives and aspirants. They are focused on a fluid two-way dialogue with the audience, rather than the traditional conference structure or event norms. We will have more sessions coming in the future so stay tuned on that front.
Well, that’s it from me for now. I hope to see you in the app. Join up as a member and message me there with your feedback. Or drop me an email to [email protected] – let’s build something great together. Until next time.
