Be the A in C

Be the A in C

Dear Son,

Congratulations on moving from LKG to UKG! Your class teacher has praised your efforts and dedication throughout the year, highlighting your excellence in studies, dance, and sports. As the school year ended and summer vacation began, we soon learned about the new sections for UKG. You were assigned to section C.

One day, outside our apartment society, a group of parents gathered and chatted cheerfully. During the conversation, one father proudly announced that his child was in section A because he believed his child was the best. This made other parents whose children were in sections B and C feel disheartened, thinking their kids were not good enough. Your Mumma and I were also part of this group, but we didn't agree with this logic and found it absurd. I signaled your Mumma to subtly leave the group, so we wouldn’t be influenced by this self-created hype.

This stayed on my mind until last Saturday when I discussed it with your teacher. She dismissed the notion, explaining that children are assigned to sections randomly and based on a balanced ratio of boys and girls.

Throughout my life, I have been part of various sections—A, B, and C—and have seen brilliant people emerge from all of them. Brilliance and intelligence are not confined to any specific section. You will likely encounter such silly comparisons in your life too. If you let them affect you, they will undermine your confidence.

I have experienced the benefits of having brilliant classmates in section A. Likewise, in sections B and C, I have seen equally, if not more, impressive contributions from my peers. Many of my classmates from different sections now hold remarkable positions and contribute significantly to society and the environment.

Comparisons based on sections are a waste of time. What truly matters is your intelligence and hard work. Many average individuals have achieved great success through sheer determination and countless hours of effort to solve critical problems.

Stay curious and socialize with people who have strong values and a higher sense of purpose or achievement. You will learn a lot from them, regardless of which section you are in.

Yesterday, India won the T20 World Cup, and some team members had modest academic backgrounds. Yet, they became world champions because they pursued their life's purpose with unwavering dedication and hard work.

All the best. Do well in life.

Love, Papa
