Aviation career development can be summarized in 3Es, the Education, Experience and Exposure, while the education framework is achieved by approved training organizations in different countries, the need for experience to show competency in craft is part of the career development journey, for many regions, this continues to be a challenge as experience can only to attained through employment, internship and other opportunities, with aviation development at different stages, not all aviators have access to the experience.

For the period of February 2022 to February 2023, IYAA recorded the following in statistics percentage of aviators interested and developing their aviation careers in the UAE, from different countries across the world which include regions of Europe, Africa, Middle east and Asia.

Aircraft maintenance engineering 35.51%

On job Training 20.56%

Airport management 13.08%

Cabin crew 10.28%

EASA training. 10.28%

Others. 10.29%

Aircraft maintenance engineering careers with the highest record is as a result of the increasing need for experience of junior aviators, a part of the general requirement to become certified engineers and technicians. The large investment and opportunities in aviation in the United Arab emirates continues to attract many more young aviators from across the world, making the region in a few years to come leaders in aviation skills development. The region providing aviators with experience on wide body aircrafts, this continues to be seen as an opportunity for both certified and junior aviators looking for getting the practical experience needed for their basic licenses and other licenses such as GCAA and EASA.?

The opening the United Arab Emirates world of aviation has shown increase in addressing this challenge of experience for Aircraft maintenance engineers through the opening of On job training program with different partners. This has shown to create positive career development as many aviators from across the world are able to get their experience, enabling them to get access to better and more technologically advanced maintenance systems and larger aircrafts.

This framework of skills development can be emulated in many countries to help uplift and improve aviation skills development, investment in MRO's and maintenance facilities would be the first step in address the challenge in the experience of aircraft maintenance engineers.
