Bye-bye Facebook
Flip Brown
Wouldn't you like work to work better? Cultures change when people change their individual and team patterns.
I finally did it - I totally deleted my Facebook account. The continued revelations about their bad behavior is simply too much to ignore. So many unacceptable actions - prioritizing the "hate" emoji five times over the "like" one, knowing that their monitoring of disinformation around the Covid virus was totally inadequate, and allowing hate groups to foster and fester. These are just a few of their morally bankrupt business decisions.
I understand that for many people they have built a world of connections on the platform that aren't easily replaced. At the risk of being a curmudgeonly old fart, I do remember when we had solid personal and family relationships with only land lines, written letters, and/or face-to-fact visits. So others are free to make their own choices. I do accept that we each need to set our own priorities, and that I'm not "better than" - just taking action that is congruent with my beliefs and practices.
To me the hallmark of leaders that I want to follow are the attributes of honesty, appropriate vulnerability, and integrity. Otherwise it simply doesn't make sense to devote any time or energy to something that is a negative energy source.
If you want to build your own community free of data harvesting, ads that follow you around, and/or nasty people check out the Mighty Networks platform (https://www.mightynetworks.com).
May we all work together to honor our differences and find middle ground, not exploit division and dishonesty for profit.
