BUZZCUTS FOR A BUZZING BUDGET

BUZZCUTS FOR A BUZZING BUDGET

With the continuation of lockdown in place we are likely to see hairdressers and barbers alike opening within the next 2 months as insinuated by the Government. This is an opportunity to not only pick up new skills and develop yourself whilst on furlough leave like myself but to also develop good habits or ideas around money management.

Money management by being in a positive balance is crucial during these times because if the furlough scheme continues to stay in place it is lilely that the 80% of your salary incentive will drop to 60%; possibly even more if there was to be another extension going forward. This will require us to adapt to cutbacks on spending and possibly find meaningful alternatives. That is why that I decided to get a buzzcut haircut which is defined by Wikipedia as:

"A buzz cut is any of a variety of short hairstyles usually designed with electric clippers. Buzz cut styles include the butch cut, crew cut, flattop, and Ivy League."

It is a low maintenance haircut which allows you to focus on other things rather then trying to wash it or comb it over to look presentable. Normally when you visit a barbers for men to get a haircut the demographic ages between the early teens right through to 30+ usually like to style their hair with maybe a skin fade or maybe even a quiff haircut. People like to look good and the extra detailing a barber brings to your hairstyle gives you confidence with a more presentable look. However for me personally getting a high skin fade at my local barbers my haircut is usually £15 and over time this really adds up. My hair grows very quickly so this can add up to spending at least £180 a year alone on haircuts (£15 X 1 haircut every 4 weeks over 12 months).

So the buzzcut solution is a great short term solution because you don't need to have any hair styling skills. You simply buy some clippers for a one time purchase and put the setting of the clipper onto a very low number grade.

A one time purchase of some reasonably priced clippers which I share with my Grandad from Amazon for £25 means that we both spent £12.50 each getting a haircut that will last a lifetime (Or as long as the clipper machine last for!).

Give it a go and see if you like the style. I was quite surprised by the results even if it does have very mixed reviews in my household. Now I can honestly say that there are two baldies living in my household!
