Catch up with Ahmed Hossam

Ahmed Hossam has had an incredibly productive year since we last spoke: having films screened at the Red Sea Film Festival to new national cultural restoration agreements, Hossam has been using Phoenix every step of the way as he believes it is ‘a game changer for this industry’.

Meet Sebastian Sadnek

Sebastian Sadnek is restoring one of the first major films starring Peter Kraus, in honour of his 85th birthday. Phoenixallowed Sebastian to harness the power of Filmworkz's DVO tools, specifically DVO Frame Lock, which became a huge part of the whole process.

Presidential approval

The team at Duplitech completed their restoration of JFK - Collector's Edition, which has already been praised by critics as 'the very definition of perfection'. DVO Dry Clean was used for the speckling and camera flashes and Michael Coronado said 'DVO Clarity was used to achieve the perfect grain structure for this project'.

Meet Gabriela Plazas

We chatted to Gabriela Plazas, who's worked on hundreds of restoration projects, with work appearing on Amazon, Netflix and the Festival de Cannes. But now she's taking on her biggest project, the 'Plan Recuperar', her mission to?protect Argentina’s filmic heritage.

We've been really proud of all the feedback we've been getting on Loki and how it's been able to free up clients' time and save them money. In case you missed it, Loki is the perfect tool for removing time-consuming manual restorationtasks by running image-processing algorithms automatically.?We are already working on the first update, so keep an eye out for that...

There's lots of other exciting tech updates that are happening behind the scenes, including some new DVOs and the Apple M-chip integration for our OFX Plugins, which we'll be able to talk about soon.

This month, we're looking forward to watching The Iron Claw, starring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White in some questionable but funky haircuts. Madame Web is a Sony/Marvel crossover we're very excited to see, and curious to find out how Dakota Johnson's superhero slots into this universe.

For Valentine's Day, Everyman is showing 10 Things I Hate About You, which is one of our favourite rom coms. Long live Shakespeare adaptations, am I right? Catch our reviews over on our Letterboxd. We are also keeping a beady eye out for the BAFTA winners this month and getting the popcorn ready for what is set to be a very exciting awards season. Everything about CODA (2021) is beautiful, the story, the look, and the acting is incredible. It's a really moving film that makes you think about life from a different angle but it does that whilst being lighthearted and fun.?- Myla
