Overcoming Proximity Bias in Remote and Hybrid Teams

By Cooleaf

A hybrid work model has many benefits. It allows employees to spend some time in the office building connections while also saving themselves several commutes every week, to name just a few. But there are also real downsides employers need to consider in hybrid workplaces, and the most significant drawback is proximity bias.

Employees who frequently work remotely are often seen as less productive, even when the opposite is true. As a result, remote team members are overlooked by managers and leaders.

Global expansion is a challenging exercise, presenting significant operational, financial, and regulatory risks.

Are Enough U.S. Workers Saving for Retirement?

A new Clever survey reveals that two in three U.S. retirees (66%) believe the country is in a retirement crisis. About 40% worry they will outlive their retirement savings. Nearly one in five (19%) already have.??

The situation is especially bleak for retired women, who are 33% more likely than men to say they don't have enough money saved for a comfortable retirement. About 28% of retired women have nothing saved, compared to 20% of men. This is no surprise given the earning disparity between the genders.?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor , women who work the same number of years as men (in the same position) earn approximately $295,000 less in their lifetime. Women who partake in caregiving roles earn 15% less over the course of their lifetimes, which significantly impacts every part of their finances— including their retirement fund.?

The U.S. workforce's attitude toward saving for retirement differs by generation with younger people in a far better position than their older colleagues.

Gen Z is perhaps the least concerned; 41% of 18- to 24-year-olds haven’t started saving for retirement and have very limited savings to fall back on. However, they still have decades left in which to make up for a slow start. A significant percentage of older generations are in the same situation with far less runway.?

  • 23% of millennials (aged 35-44) have yet to start saving.
  • An astounding 27% of Gen Xers, aged 45-54, don’t have any retirement savings.
  • Surprisingly, those in the 55-64 age group fare worse, with 32% saying they have yet to start saving. A quarter of baby boomers (over 65) said the same.

Employers who are not able to offer retirement contributions, such as a 401(k), can still support employees with retirement savings by providing resources and support for financial planning, such as a financial wellness program .

The Future of Recruiting

LinkedIn released a report outlining six predictions for the future of recruitment. AI, skills-based hiring, and flexibility are shaping the way we find and secure talent.?

Moreover, quality of hire tops the recruiting agenda. Get all the insight here.

More Jobs & More Unemployment. What Gives?

NBC spoke to economists about the current anomaly . The U.S. economy added 39% more jobs in February than predicted last year. The largest slice of these were in healthcare and hospitality. At the same time, drastically fewer new jobs were created in white color sectors— i.e., information and business services, where we've also seen higher layoffs.?

These businesses are aggressively slashing costs and embracing technological innovations, actions that are significantly reshaping staffing needs.

Long story short; job opportunities are more limited, aside from a few fairly narrow sectors.

I really love that SSR is doing this, it's such a confusing market with so many folks with shiny products and it's hard to wade through to what really resonates best for your particular org. I hope it's a great Headliner as they always are.
