Dr. Sandra Wright, Master Trainer and Customer Service Evangelist, here to share some thoughts with you around CHANGE.
It has been said many times that “Change is a way of organizational life, and change is not an option”. The harsh sound of “change is inevitable, and you have no choice in the matter” can scare a person to death. Well, maybe not to “death”, but, this means you must change or you will perish within your organization.
Don’t perish! In becoming an advocate for change or a change agent will allow you to assist significantly with the responsibility of leading change and help become more poised and powerful as a leader. Morphing is a term that means to transform, to adapt, to convert, or to change. Here are several ways that individuals, organizations and their employees MORPH or accept change:
1. Take it out the box –taking change out of the box allows individuals to really look at change, to examine and focus on the change. Change may get messy or chaotic while being taken out of the box. However, taking change out of the box takes courage and hope, and the acceptance their needs to be a change.
2. Aim – authentically envision your team hitting the right target. Aiming is about taking steps toward your target (your vision, goals, and commitments). To successfully walk toward these goals, you might have to redesign your mission and vision statements. Perhaps you must develop these statements from the beginning. A mission and vision statement can help you as a leader attract service excellence, and hold the organization together, just as a magnet can attract and hold together objects. The mission can also simulate a ruler—measuring how well your group and organization is completing that target or the AIM for success. When you AIM, make sure your vision and mission are Realistic, Energetic (have some fun), Achievable and Long-lasting (R.E.A.L.)!
3. Align – your team to stay on course after the CHANGE has occurred. Trust your team and trust yourself. Embrace the God-give talents and abilities of your team. Talk to everyone about the change and keep your ears open. Never give up on your team’s vision and the organizational vision. Support and encourage everyone through this change, including you!
4. Paradigm flexibility –a must have in the organization and on the team. All leaders should have this in this new millennium. Flexibility assists organizations with the frequent shifts and the lifeblood of the company. Making the rules pliant or flexible can address an immediate chaotic situation to make a goal easier to achieve.
You and your team can succeed and make all the difference in your CHANGE Efforts!
