To Butter or Not to Butter?
National Corn on the Cob Day June 11th

To Butter or Not to Butter?

Some call it “corn-stick,” others go with “sweet pole,” but we like to call it amazing.?Especially when you use those cute plastic corn on the cob handles.?June 11th is the perfect pre-summer date for National Corn on the Cob.?The sweetness doesn’t hang around for very long.?Corn has to be picked at its freshest, otherwise there is a risk of, nothing really, just a slightly less incredible taste.?

If you plan to have corn in your garden in order to pick it yourself, there’s a trick to spotting when the corn is ready.?The milk stage, the kernels are still soft, and this is natures way of saying “come and get it!”?Grill, boil, steam, or roast it to your liking.

TIMELINE OF CORN ON THE COB

10,000 years ago: First Domesticated; Farmers begin domesticating corn in what is now present-day Mexico.??

4000 B.C.: Evolution of Corn; Owing to new sowing techniques, kernels of corn become an inch long.?

1930s: Discovery; George Beadle discovers that teosinte and modern corn’s chromosomes are compatible.?

1950s: Sweet Corn; Sweet corn is developed by Professor John Laughnan of the University of Illinois.

Did you know when corn isn’t on the cob, you may find it as a key ingredient in medicines and substances we use every day??Antibiotics, hand soap, ethanol, and even fireworks are just a few examples of how those little yellow kernels are used.?So, the next time you watch fireworks on Independence Day , show your solidarity by munching down a piece of corn. You could say it's your patriotic duty. Corn is also great as a snack mainly eaten at the movies, but also as décor around the Christmas tree.

How do you take your cob??Eating corn on the cob is one way of enjoying corn.?Corn on a cob can be prepared in a variety of ways including boiling, steaming and grilling. Sweet corn is a good variety to be eaten directly off the cob.?Nothing wrong with salt and butter, but something with more pizzazz, like say, miso butter, could offer an interesting twist. If you’re in the mood for a bite that packs a kick, look no further than Jamaican jerk curry mayo and coconut. And for those who love everything crispy, there's batter-fried corn. When has deep-frying ever let anyone down?

Summer time, what does that mean? You throw some corn on the grill. And where there's a grill, there's a BBQ. After getting through the winter, there's nothing sweeter than relaxing in the sun outside. Sweet corn is just the icing on the cake, not literally, but with the right recipe it could be.?

Many times, we don’t think, but how do you ship corn??Shipping corn while still on its cob is a great way to share corn to family and friends from areas where corn is scarce.?Here is a simple way to pack and ship corn on cobs and ensure that they will arrive fresh and delicious.?Corn starts converting from sugar to starch the minute it’s picked so it is best to ship it immediately! Sending it overnight is the best option.?To keep the corn fresh longer, it is best to husk it. Corn experts say that corn lasts longer once it is removed from the husk.?Wrap each cob with damp (not soaking) paper towel and plastic wrap. Arrange the wrapped cobs in a vacuum seal bag.?Get a sturdy shipping box that can accommodate all your corns and allow some more space for packaging materials. Layer the bottom of the box with packaging peanuts and put iced gel packs on each side of the box.?Lay your packed corn on top of the packaging peanuts.?Fill the box with more packaging peanuts up to the top. Close the box and secure the flaps with packaging tape. Make sure that the contents of the box do not move when gently shaken.??

Using a refrigerated shipping option, if possible, and the fastest option available to maintain the quality of our sweet corn. Sending frozen cold packs in your package will also help to preserve your corn longer during the shipping process.

Most U.S. corn is produced in just seven States and is shipped by rail, barge, and truck to feedlots, feed mills, ethanol refineries, and ports for export. 3 Corn exporters depend mostly on rail and barge services to move the crop to ports; domestic corn movements are primarily handled by trucks.

Here at Ship Audit Pros, we offer answers to the above questions using our FREE Instant Analysis Tool to see if you are getting the best rate you believe you are getting.?There is no cost to you to run an analysis.?You simply input your info and our program does the rest for you.?There is no hassle in paying someone to do the job for you.?If you are getting a good rate then you can be sure, but if you’re not we can help you ask for Cheaper Rates!!!
