The Busy-ness of December….

In The Persistent founded by Francesca Donner , cartoonist Aubrey Hirsch illustrated somewhat alarming data explaining how much of the added unpaid labor of the holidays is done by women. Most of us know this. We just never stop to think about it. (See the full comic here.) If small children are in your life -- the list is even longer. Volunteer commitments, while wonderful, can completely stack the deck against you. Fa! La! La!

As for work, office parties and other holiday-related events are jammed into December. Some industries where excessive glad-handing and client wrangling are expected the December calendar can be overflowing. One year, a friend (who shares my December birthday) told me not to expect to see them before the holidays because both husband and wife were executives in retail and local business banking. They attended parties almost every night of the week starting right after Thanksgiving and other events on the weekends. They shoe-horned their extended family events in between. Friends had to wait.

My family has a full calendar of family birthdays + close friends' birthdays the entire month! Every few years it seems a new baby is born in December. Many double up!

As if December wasn’t busy enough, I added a major project to my agenda this year, The Magic Christmas Sleigh: A Family Holiday Story About Santa Claus and a Crisis at the North Pole.

As if December wasn’t busy enough, I added a major project to my agenda this year – The Magic Christmas Sleigh: A Family Holiday Story About Santa Claus and a Crisis at the North Pole,?my first children’s book and its companion coloring book. As a Christmas story, this is the peak season for introducing the book through marketing and in-person events. While I am having a blast, it’s more stuff on my to-do list and calendar.

I am grateful Santa is happy with the story! And I hope your family will make it a part of your Christmas tradition just as my family has! A free Kindle download is available through December 12. Pop over to my Substack and find out more…

See you in 2025
