A Busy Month at the Center!
NDSU Center for Entrepreneurship and Family Business
Here at the Center we are working to inspire the next generation, next research idea, and next community connection.
It has been a very busy couple of weeks here at the NDSU Center for Entrepreneurship and Family Business! On April 19th we hosted our second annual 'Problems to Possibilities' event at which college students from the region competed in the University of Oxford sponsored competition, Map the System. The NDSU winning team is composed of Heather Haarstick (NDSU – Bachelor’s in Business Administration), Elizabell Delgado (NDSU Doctor of Pharmacy) and Grace Beauchamp, MBA (University of Alabama – studying Chemistry and Psychology).?They explored the Childcare Crisis in North Dakota and did a systematic analysis of how childcare impacts parents, workforce, and economic development in North Dakota. This team moves on to the next round of the competition and competes on Wednesday, May 10th in the semi-finals. You can watch and cheer them on! Registration is now open on Hopin: https://hopin.com/events/map-the-system-online-semi-finals/registration
During this event we were entertained by one of our amazing NDSU entrepreneurship students and Ozbun entrepreneurship scholars, Chloe Watterud . Chloe was amazing!! We were also captivated by Kayla Jones as she presented her poem reflecting on experiences as a women of color.

On Wednesday, April 26th NDSU took over Start-Up Brew. Family business students taking Onnolee Nordstrom 's class this semester had fun taking photos and talking with various entrepreneurs and family business leaders at this event! One student commented: "It was cool to hear from the three business owners and connect with others in the Fargo-Moorhead/NDSU community. I enjoyed hearing the stories of the syrup, light up fishing lures, and consulting businesses and how they got to where they are today. I liked at the end how they mentioned how we all can help them, and a large majority is our power to share their business with others and try their product/services. One good connection can lead to so many other opportunities." Thanks to Emerging Prairie for putting on such a great event!
And then the next day the Center for Entrepreneurship and the NDSU Library hosted an entrepreneurial showcase! This was a chance for our entrepreneurially-minded students to showcase their ideas and start-up businesses.
And there were so many cool ideas ... from a ring that vibrates to wake you up, to mystery golf packages, to rain-proof backpacks, to designer cookies, to a space-saving dorm bed! The team that won our "Possibility Pioneer" award was Green and Gold Legacy. This team was made up of Taylor Petersen , Aria Staiger, Nicholas Kubitz , Cael Lorentz ,and Carter Louagre. This group used the skills they learned in Dan Hsu 's capstone entrepreneurship class and ran a football camp for elementary school children. They made over $3000, which they donated to charity! Thanks Adam E. and Jolie Graybill for organizing and letting us take over the library!
