Busy – Doing What?

How many times do we hear “I’m too busy now, can’t do anything else.” We have said this too. Chances are, we were too busy. However, only we really know what we were busy with. Every day we woke up with a full day ahead of us, with plenty of time to work towards our goals. Then, at the end of the day we often felt that we haven’t gotten any closer to what we should have. Did we realize being busy does not get anything done or being busy just uses our precious time? If we do, then we know then what are we busy doing, but being busy with anything and everything, doesn’t take us anywhere really?
Have we ever said that to ourselves, “Yes, may be!”
It’s time we did and we need to take a look at how we spend our time.
As another year draws to a close, it’s an ideal time to think back on all the things we accomplished, and on all the things we hoped to accomplish but didn’t.
Where did all the time go?
We need to ask ourselves “Why are we doing the things we do?
We need to ask ourselves, “Is whatever we are doing moving us in the direction of our goals?”
We need to look at our activities with the goal of making the best use of our time.We need to learn to say no to activities that just keep us busy and that which doesn’t help us accomplish anything.
Our attitude can play a big part in shaping us up.
If we take the attitude that we’re trying to “Just get through the day” that’s exactly what we’ll do -- just get through the day.
When we adopt the mindset of “Let’s see how much I can accomplish today” then we most likely get a lot more done.
We need to look for “Value.”
Value is everywhere. We can begin with ourselves. Think of all the skills and knowledge we possess. We can make a list and ask, “Who could benefit from the skills and the knowledge that we possess?” We need to open our mind and consider the possibilities. Then figure out a way to sell our skills and our knowledge to those people.
If we look around we can also find hidden value in other people and other businesses. Even in the most dismal situations there is value. Let's think about a business that has just figured out as to how to face the challenges. They have no cash, no equity, technology disruption, changing customer needs. What value could there possibly be in such a situation? Well, the owner of the business has just received a very expensive education. He realizes all too well what he did wrong, but to make him open to think that knowledge would be leveraged even more to gain value if he/she could discuss openly with some trusted people like us and to others in the same line of business.
The trick is to look at every situation and try to find value in it.
When we start doing this, unlimited possibilities open up, not only for material gain but for personal development as well.
Let’s take a look around us. What hidden values can we detect?
If our presence can’t add value to our life, our absence will not make a difference.
The conclusion is to, “Be Busy Adding Value – to self and others.” Coaches can certainly help us in this pursuit.
Merry Christmas, and Wishes for a great year 2018 ahead...

6 年Good share. True, what we do will be meaningful if it can add value to ourselves, to the people around us and to the society as well.
