Busy Bees Australia hosted its inaugural in-person national Conference & Excellence Awards

On 24-25 March 2022, Busy Bees Australia hosted its inaugural in-person annual Conference & Excellence Awards to celebrate its people and their incredible achievements.

The conference delivered a thought-provoking program centred around the theme of "Belonging". Busy Bees believe that driving diversity, equality and inclusion are essential, and we ensure that everyone in our Hive feels a sense of belonging.

We acknowledged and paid respect to the past, present and future Traditional Custodians and Elders of this nation and the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples.

Shannon Ruska delivered a powerful and inspiring Welcome to Country, followed by a very touching Acknowledgement of Country performed by musical artist Waveney Yasso.

It was an absolute pleasure to see Service Managers from across Australia and National Support Centre employees coming together to share their love for, and share their diverse experience in, the early learning sector and their unique points of view in helping shape the lives of the many children across Australia.

Over the two-day event, conference attendees learnt practicable skills from our guest speakers, learning activities and networking opportunities.

"We are committed to employee development and experience and know that investing in our people is investing in our families" - Robert Hughes, CEO of Busy Bees Australia.

The Presidential Ballroom at the Pullman Brisbane King George Square was full of laughter and tears as the audience listened to the captivating presentations of our keynote speakers. Michael Crossland, inspirational speaker and author, touched the audience with his life story and journey, as he encouraged everyone to never give up on their dreams. We were also honoured to hear from well-being and workplace culture wonderworker Toni Powell, who reminded us not to sweat the small stuff and appreciate the simple things in life.

Throughout the Busy Bees conference, our emcees hosts, Michelle Rushton and Shaun Kenny from the People of Influence, facilitated discussions and ensured everyone took full advantage of the event.

Brainstorming and thought-provoking sessions around the customer journey and tour experience saw our teams collaborate and think about our families.

Our Market Stalls were popular during the event, with Service Managers having the opportunity to speak with Busy Bees and suppliers and learn more about the resources they can utilise at Service-level. Gratitude and thanks to Modern Teaching Aids, Blink - The Frontline Experts, KindyNow, Step4, HESTA Superannuation, Australian Child Care Career Options.

The last session of the conference was dedicated to the unique and heart-warming Helping Hands charity program, where we built 60 prosthetic hands for donation to amputee landmine victims. Busy Bees strive to support communities and social justice issues and our Services link with community organisations to assist those in need.

It was an absolute privilege to be in the presence of our dedicated Busy Bees Team members who travelled locally and interstate as well as our National Support Centre employees to share this amazing event. Coming together, sharing, collaborating, team building, crying, laughing and most importantly celebrating in all that has been achieved and what the future at Busy Bees holds. I'm blessed to be part of the Busy Bees senior leadership team and able to continually support and invest in our Service and National Support personnel to make great even greater. #blessed #BBAU22Awards #investment #education #culturechange #culturebuilding #childcare #childcareprofessional #childcarejobs #childcare

What a delight to be with you all for such an enjoyable event. You really did yourselves proud. Was impressed by the bravery of the leaders who entertained us with their fabulous dances and the phenomenal job Phillip Hay did pulling this together. Thank you all for including me. I loved it. Congrats to all of you who put your hearts into this special day.
