Myth #1: You need to send a press release to get publicity
With the ability to connect with journalists so easily today, you don't need to rely on expensive press releases. In fact, I've interviewed many journalists who say they don't even read a press release if it comes in. Connect with journalists, provide value, and build relationships. No need for a press release.
Myth #2: Social Media Is the Only Way to Pitch
Social media has revolutionized the way we communicate, and it has also changed the way we pitch the media. While social media can be an effective way to connect with journalists and build relationships, it should not be the only method of pitching. Many journalists still prefer to receive pitches via email or phone, and ignoring these traditional methods can limit your chances of securing coverage.
Myth #3: You Need a Huge Budget to Pitch the Media
Another myth surrounding media pitching is that you need a huge budget to be successful (i.e. hiring a PR firm). You don't need someone to do this for you. Building relationships with journalists and offering unique, timely, and relevant stories is just as effective. In fact, some of the most successful media pitches come from small businesses and startups with limited budgets. My track record together with my clients is over 1 billion views and over $100M in sales from FREE publicity (no PR firm needed)

Myth #4: You Need a Celebrity or Influencer to Pitch
While having a celebrity or influencer endorse your product, service or brand can be helpful, it is not necessary for successful media pitching. Journalists are always looking for interesting stories and angles, and a unique product or service can be just as compelling as a celebrity endorsement. Focusing on the story behind your brand and what sets it apart can be the key to securing media coverage.
By understanding these myths and debunking them, you can increase your chances of securing media coverage and build more visibility for your brand. Remember to focus on crafting compelling stories that are relevant and timely and build relationships with the right journalists who cover your industry.
