Busting the myths holding mobile app developers to prefer Android over iOS
In this article we explored several myths and reasonably proved that Android is the best OS in mobile market. It has all those features which make an OS the first choice of every individual.
There is a leading position of Android in market; still, some myths are preventing mobile app developers not to prefer Android over iOS. They continue to favor iOS despite the fact that with each passing year, iOS powered devices are losing the ground.
However, everybody praises both the hardware and software of Apple’s devices, but it doesn’t mean that high-end Android devices cannot match the same. High-end Android powered devices have such incredible features which can defeat iPhone too. Still, Android is surrounded by several myths which are absolutely baseless in the present scenario of mobility. This article lights on most of those myths:
Android is complicated OS
A mobile device running Android as the core OS has more features than an iPhone. Consider it pre-loaded with almost all the services provided by Google. All you need to do is - log-in with your Google account credentials and you are ready to enter the world of Google and ultimately the web. Unlike iPhone, which requires you to create an Apple ID, Android powered smartphones devices are ready to serve you within a few seconds.
You just cannot compare your cheap Android device that comes in $100 with an iPhone. Compare iPhone with a high-end Android powered device, and you will yourself notice that there are more places than one where this Android smartphone appears to be a better choice.
Because Android has a bad UI, applications made for its look bad too.
It is another myth propagated by super-fan of iPhone development technology but it is not true. Yes, it is admitted that earlier Android powered phones were not good in looks and functionality but same was the cases with earlier iOS powered devices. With time, iOS has turned out to be a polished OS and Android too is now quite sophisticated. Android is now an impressive mobile OS with beautiful user interface and a list of features that most iOS devices users wish in their iPhone or iPad. Today’s Android, from Ginger Bread to Honeycomb, to Ice Cream Sandwich, to Jelly Bean to KitKat to Lollypop are the most impressive mobile platforms in the Android ecosystem. There are many Android developers who have created stunning apps for this platform and some of them are even better than their iOS versions. So we can say that if you as developer are targeting iPhone and than porting the code to Android app, and if the app turns out to be ugly-looking, it is your entire fault.
Android does not earn as good money as iOS.
It’s one of the most generalized myths. There are several hot debates keep going on the issue that iOS makes more money than Android. Yes, iOS is still in the leading position when it comes to monetization and Android developers have not succeeded to make as good money as iPhone developers. But it is not Android’s fault only. Several Android developers offer such apps that do not offer things to attract people using or buying them. They take it lightly that it’s easy to get an app approved on the Google Play and thus do not dedicatedly build Android apps. There is always something valuable that the mobile developers can offer and regardless of considering about the platform, they can make money.
Android still has many fantastic apps and all these apps are making good money. Developers of these apps know that they just cannot ignore the fact that Android’s market share is undefeatable.
iPhone is the only choice, Android is an alternative.
It is another misconception about Android platform. iPhone powered device supporters keep propagating this thing too that iPhone is people’s first choice and Android is an alternative. But how an alternative can have a market share of more than 80 percent, and how the first choice has lost everything it earned in last half decade and has been narrowed to a market share of 11 percent? iOS is not dominating even in its home-land. Android powered device made by Samsung, LG, HTC, and HUWAEI have captured a share of about 47 percent and iPhone just has 42 percent share in the US mobile market. iOS market share is worse in Asian countries like China and India. Here Android is gradually rising and iOS is seriously falling.
Quantity makes difference as Android market share is gigantic enough in comparison of iOS market share. All it takes to make money on this platform is that you treat the Android app development project the way it is done, or taste failure.
Google Inc has given its OS away for free. It even does not charge money for tools and technologies that Android developers use in app development.
Google and Open Handset Alliance now appear to control the OS for fragmentation related issues. They have offered Android has the only choice, not an alternative.
Developers need to do a lot for Android app development
It’s about fragmentation and because of this issue, Android has been quite unpopular. But it is not Android’s fault at all. The open-source nature of this OS has led fragmentation in many ways. But fragmentation is not an impossible-tyupe problem to deal with. As both Google and Open Handset Alliance are dedicated towards Android, they have been trying hard to remove software related fragmentation issues from the Android ecosystem. They have provided Google Play Services app, that once downloaded in a device, keeps updating all the apps provided by Google itself. This app automatically updates all the Google services active in a device. In this way, despite hardware is different in different device, software environment remains the same.
Android has malware infection
Many super fan of iPhone say that Android is an unsafe OS as it is easily infected with malware or other malicious program. But using any apps safely or unsafely entirely depends on users. With little knowledge about permissions, users can avoid the instance of malware. If they download apps with precaution, cross check permission, prefer Google Play and do not root their device, there may hardly be any case of malware.
Android is just not as good as iOS
Some people are preoccupied with iOS, and they think and also keep advising others that iOS is the best mobile platform and Android is simply a low-class OS.
That’s why it is less covered by media, developers less consider it, and it earns less revenue too. But experts know that Android is as better as iOS and there is nothing less in Android then Apple’s mobile OS. Even Android has such incredible features that have not so far been added to the iOS.
