Business...finds a way

Business...finds a way

I was inspired to write this article while eating dinner this weekend.

My wife and I had just finished a hike and were sitting on the patio of a local restaurant having dinner on a beautiful California summer evening.

In the middle of a global pandemic, it was business as usual.

The economy is more or less fine. the US stock market is where it was when this whole thing started late last year. People have adapted. Business has adapted.

Just as our local eatery has adopted new cleaning and sanitation policies, moved all seating outdoors, and everyone around us was wearing a mask, other businesses have adapted as well.

I haven't stepped foot into EdCast Mountain View headquarters in 5 months, but we have adapted to continue to be productive and even accelerate the growth of our business. Many companies have adapted to operating with an entirely remote workforce, with some like Facebook stating they will support the remote work culture indefinitely.

Certainly some industries have been hard hit such as anything related to travel or vacation, while others have adapted and are growing. Uber doubling down on food delivery in a climate where their core ride share business has crumbled by 75% is a perfect example

Companies that enable these transformations, such as collaboration and change management tools are doing well. Zoom, Trello, MyGuide, Slack, and Microsoft Teams, have become staples of doing business in this remote work climate.

My company, MyGuide by EdCast, has both adapted to our new remote working reality learning how to build product and serve customers effectively and efficiently, and also position our products to solve business problems in ways never before considered pre corona virus.

To borrow from Jurassic Park: Business...finds a way.

This story is still unfolding, and certainly corona virus has been tragic for many, but the adaptability of business, and the creativity and resiliency of human beings has been amazing so far. Hopefully I won't have to eat these words later.

Wear a mask. Wash your hands. Safely and responsibly support your local economy.
