Business Travel After COVID-19

Business Travel After COVID-19

While there is a concern for people's health with this COVID-19 pandemic taking the world by storm, it seems to me that the economic damage is the one we need to be very worried about.

My focus in this blog is on the economy and in particular the aviation industry Many airlines have grounded their fleets and let go of many of their staff. We have also seen a few airlines go bust and it is looking like it will take a long time for the industry to recover. With the airline industry, hotel bookings are down, restaurants are closing and lots of other businesses. More business is being done online, where we have seen Amazon shares shooting past $2,000 and climbing like rocket.

Once lockdown is over I honestly don't think many people will launch out on a holiday, mainly because with so many out of work, they simply won't have the money. There will be a recovery, but very slow, at least for the airlines industry.

Cargo flights are up and I think this sector will see considerable growth in the next few years, as more people gain access to the internet. This lockdown period is certainly turning people's minds to doing more business online and maybe even from home.

What about business aviation?

While the business charter companies have been hit hard, just like the airlines I do see business jet usage and ownership increase. Not many know that only half the billionaires in the world own their own jet. The half that don't, are now thinking maybe they should. Let's face it, if you are worth $1 billion you can afford to spend $50M on buying a jet and $5M a year to run it. When you own your own jet, you can have it disinfected and have your crew tested for viruses, you also control who flies on your plane and when and where it goes. All advantages that are going to give your business more power in the world we are moving into, post-virus.

Let me know what you think and please feel free to contact me to book yourself in for a FREE business aviation consultation.
