Business Schools Still Lag on Diversity, Despite Stated Goals

In the months after Minneapolis police officers killed George Floyd in May 2020, the best-regarded business schools in the US quickly responded.

Almost every top 25 US B-school in Bloomberg Businessweek’s most-recent ranking has made some commitment to diversity and inclusion. And many began formulating changes meant to bring more underrepresented minorities to campus.

Three years later, this work isn't showing up in enrollment. According to data from 22 of the top 26 B-schools, the share of underrepresented minority students in their full-time MBA programs remained flat or even dropped.

What are the factors at play at recruiting and retaining a diverse B-school student body? Reporter Robb Mandelbaum digs into the data and speaks with the schools.

It is time for them to look at Latin America, there are not only business schools in the US or Europe or Asia, but also in Latin America, they can learn a little about how to get ahead in the midst of major crises.
