Business Powered by Faith

Business Powered by Faith

Christianity in Business podcast host, Darren Shearer had an inspiring conversation with our very own CEO of LeadFirst, Gary Harpst. The episode is filled with amazing conversation about the intersection between faith and business. Gary also shared his journey, insights and strategies as a Christian leader on how he was able to integrate the biblical principles to his business and succeed.

Embracing Faith in Business

Question#1: When did you first realize God wanted to be involved in your work in the marketplace?

The Bible really explained this inner conflict and some brokenness inside of us. That led me to find the answers to what's wrong with me in the Gospel.
I remember having a conversation saying, "If this thing about Jesus, Faith and God is true, shouldn't it affect all of our life not just on Sunday mornings?"
"Great way to grow in your faith is to run a business" - Gary Harpst

Business Partnership Powered by Faith

The way we do our big business decisions is we would just get together, pray, talk openly of our choices and look at scriptures - We never had a split vote in our 40 years of partnership, not 1.
The answer is there was something more important to us than the business.

Business Purpose Aligned with God's Plan

Question#2: What would you say is your favorite Bible verse or passage related to business and entrepreneurship?

Step 1 - Get this foundation right about believing in God and then Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Lessons from Business Challenges & Constraints

Reflecting on his own business challenges, Gary recounts a critical lesson learned during a failed project that nearly bankrupted his company. The experience underscored the importance of having a purpose aligned with God's plan. Acknowledging the need for redirection, Gary experienced a breakthrough that propelled the company to a remarkable 600% growth over the next five years.

Bringing Order Out of Chaos

Question#3: About your teaching that chaos is not just our enemy, It's our purpose. What do you mean by that?

Chaos is the raw material from which we apply purpose. This applies to businesses, It applies to homes, It applies to churches all the time. We're bringing order out of it. Even cooking a meal is God's plan, right? You ever see your grandma on a 1000 ingredients and she takes all these things and somehow puts them together hence, the feast is created.

Gary believes that leadership's purpose, as defined in Genesis, is to bring order out of chaos. By recognizing chaos as the raw material and purpose as the guiding force, leaders can navigate challenges effectively.

Encouraging Leaders on Their Journey

Question#4: Is it possible to integrate faith and business successfully in today's litigious society and all that kind of stuff?

You can build a great business and do kingdom building at the same time. You don't have to compromise. You can do it all.

As Gary continues to advocate for the integration of faith and business, he aims to empower leaders to make a difference aligned with God's purpose. Gary envisions accelerating the progress of leaders who seek to build kingdom impact businesses.

Gary Harpst's journey is a testament to the power of integrating faith into business. By aligning purpose with God's plan, leaders can navigate chaos, make better business decisions, and bring order to challenges. As Gary invites leaders on this journey, the hope is to see a generation of businesses making a difference aligned with God's purpose.
