Business Networking is: Focus on 2 things!

Do you ever get frustrated with your professional networking and not quite sure how to make it more effective and efficient? We've all been there.

After almost 6,000 one-to-one's over the last 13 years, I have created the 7 Habits to Intentional Growth. The first habit we're going to discuss today is "Focus". (Below are the full 7 habits for your reference.)

7 Habits of Intentional Growth:

  1. Focus
  2. Influence
  3. Invite
  4. Draft
  5. Champion
  6. Refer
  7. Win-Win

Today let's get into "Focus"

There are two questions to think about when talking about Focus:

  1. Who are you looking to connect with? When professional networking, it's imperative you know who you're looking for. There are 2 types of people you should be trying to meet with. The first is your ideal client. These people may not necessarily be in the room. Remember, you're here to build relationships, not sell to the room. The second is your Champions. These people are in the room. These are the people who target the same market as you but don't do what you do. Focus on meeting them and earning like, know, and trust with them.
  2. Where are you going? What are your goals? Who do you need to meet with to reach those goals and how can you make an impact on others?

Remember when focusing in your professional networking, you want to make sure you know who you're looking to meet with and you know where you're going.

Questions to ask yourself:

1. Am I prepared to network to intentionally at the next business networking experience?

2. Do I network intentionally or do I really network for opportunities?

3. Do I really network for the win-win or am I only focused on what I can get out of the 1:1 or networking experience?
