Skirt. Magazine marks its 25th anniversary with cover feature of new owner, business powerhouse “Pixie” Paula Dezzutti

Charleston, S.C., 20 June 2019 -- As Skirt. Magazine celebrates the 25th anniversary of its publication, it announced its new owner: renaissance woman “Pixie” Paula Dezzutti. To commemorate 25 years in print and new leadership, Skirt. fittingly featured Pixie Paula on its cover with the words, “This is NOW!”  Dezzutti has been celebrated in her business ventures for embracing innovation, taking stale and outdated methods, often in male-dominated industries, and infusing them with new life and game changing ideas to bring them into the now.  She is also known for her pioneering partnership platforms that celebrate community and leverage common resources to support and elevate everyone involved in each initiative, as well as the wider community - and her mission for Skirt.’s next 25 years is no exception.

Skirt. Magazine, lauded as Charleston’s First Women’s Magazine, has been celebrating and empowering women since 1994, reaching more than 45,000 readers a month across 25 states via its subscription and digital platforms.  Featuring doers, decision-makers, and influencers, whether they be caretakers, CEOs, or community proponents, Skirt. has always had women and women’s issues at heart.  Pixie is embracing Skirt.’s ethos and has plans to expand the magazine’s coverage in terms of topics as well as reach, to take the publication’s impact to the next level as it marks this cornerstone. This includes the launch of a new column, Don’t Skirt the Issue, which will host sensitive, controversial, but necessary conversations.

Pixie plans to use her experience and expertise to build an even stronger and wider reaching Skirt. community, bringing women, and anyone in support of women, closer together, not just through shared stories, but through shared spaces and events to network, learn, mentor, and lift each other to greater heights.  Having launched her first business in elementary school, Pixie also seeks to invite more young women to take part in the Skirt. community and share their stories and ambitions, highlighting both the successes of and topical issues facing younger women who are just embarking on their careers or whatever their next steps in womanhood may be.

“For a while now I’ve been playing in industries that have historically been a man’s playground, edging my nose forward delicately to assuage the fears of those who feel challenged by contemporary viewpoints,” Pixie wrote in her inaugural letter to readers in the June issue of Skirt. “The time is ripe for every woman to add greater dimension to intellectual standards, to the quality of reasoning, and to critical thinking.  It’s impossible for feminine innovation to go unnoticed and I for one am tired of being hushed, so I invite everyone to bring on their ‘Pixie Power’ as together we embrace fashion, fun, family, and our formidable future,” she added.

As a female entrepreneur, CEO, financial advisor, personal coach, mother, grandmother, and an ordained minister, Pixie Paula is no stranger to women and community empowerment, or to business, especially when it comes to playing in male-dominated spaces. Through her background in finance and real estate development, she gained expertise in hospitality and working with celebrities while putting together PGA and tourism events at the properties she was developing.  She then became an early investor and Executive Brand Manager for Terressentia, a technology company that purifies alcohol. This led her to launch her own business, Local Choice Spirits, which has been disrupting the alcohol industry for nearly 9 years with its pioneering partnership platform and a Sip and Share initiative that gives back to community causes. Pixie is also the owner of the award-winning Striped Pig Distillery, SC’s Distillery of the year and Charleston’s first distillery since prohibition. 

Dezzutti’s work has always centered on creating stronger communities, and not just through the Sip and Share initiative she pioneered.  In her free time she serves on the Board of Directors for the Charleston Interreligious Council, partners with the Sophia Institute, and serves as a mentor of the Harbor Entrepreneur Center. She recently partnered with Charleston Radio Group creating the show, “Lift Your Spirits” on 92.5 Kickin’ Country to lift the spirits of listeners, as well as created Music, Media and Magic, a platform for spring boarding local artists’ and their careers, as well as other non-profit organizations, in order to accelerate their visibility in the community and enhance their fundraising opportunities. 

As a woman who has successfully navigated many male-dominated industries and achieved many firsts, not just firsts for women, Paula is excited to be fusing her innovation, business expertise, and passion for empowerment to see Skirt. through the next 25 years.
