? Business Minute #164 - Time Blocking

"The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities." - Stephen Covey

Time blocking: it's not just a buzzword, but a tried and true method that top-performing individuals use to manage their time effectively and boost productivity. With distractions at every turn and a never-ending to-do list, ensuring that each hour of your day has a specific purpose is crucial.

So here is my advice to you:

1. Start with Fixed Commitments: Before you add anything else, block out time for non-negotiables. This includes meetings, scheduled breaks, and personal commitments. This gives you a clear picture of the time you genuinely have available.

2. Assign Themes to Different Times: Certain hours of the day might be more conducive to specific types of tasks. For instance, your mornings might be great for deep work while post-lunch hours could be set aside for meetings or lighter tasks.

3. Review and Adjust: At the end of each week, review your time blocks. Did you adhere to them? Where did you go over or fall short? Adjust for the coming week based on your reflections to create a more realistic plan.

Recommended Tool: Google Calendar — It's simple, integrates with most tools, and allows for easy time blocking with color-coded segments.

What's the one task you'd dedicate a time block to, ensuring it gets completed?

First thing I do every day is look at my calendar and see what my day looks like. I call this time block future sight.
