Business is Business - Or Is It?

Business is Business - Or Is It?

“There’s no difference in your meditation, your mantra, your reading, spiritual readings, you’re traveling places to see holy people and cooking dinner, taking up the kids for soccer, going to work, dealing with a client, getting fired, searching for a new job, all exactly the same.” - Michael Singer (Living Untethered)

I remember talking to my therapist about something happening in a business situation years ago, and her response “Mark, business is business.”

She knew better, so I adjusted, and for a time, I was one way in business and another in “real life.”? It didn’t last long… because I didn’t have the stamina to be two people.

Now, I see it as complete bullshit.? Now I know:

Every situation you find yourself in, every interaction, every challenge is a slice of the whole of your life.? Every transaction and how you execute it becomes part of your legacy.

More importantly…

We spend so much of our time “working” on projects, with clients, coaching our teams, and supporting our bosses… that any moment not spent consciously living, is a moment lost to old habits, old wounds, and automatic responses.

And we bring that shit home with us.? It affects our families.? It creeps up from our pillows at 2 am.? Our bodies, hearts, and minds keep score.

We have one life, made up of many scenes.?

That’s why I coach my clients to see every situation they find themselves in as an opportunity to grow.? To grow their capacity, their range, their impact, and most importantly, to improve their experience of life!

Want to be happier?

  • Bring your integrity to work
  • Bring your courage to work
  • Bring your candor to work
  • Bring your curiosity to work
  • Bring your heart to work
  • And… be present at work

Business is life… just like the rest of it.? That is real leadership.?

Video/Podcast of the week:

Of course, The Michael Singer Podcast - Turning Daily Life into Spiritual Practice

Spiritual growth comes from treating daily life and spiritual practices as one and the same. To do this requires accepting reality and responding to life’s events with calm awareness rather than reacting out of desire or fear. By surrendering to the present moment and acting without personal motive, one can achieve true spiritual evolution and live in harmony with life as it unfolds.

Book of the week:

“Living Untethered” - Michael Singer

At this point I am a walking, talking, broken record of a shill for Mickey Singer.? No one on earth has taught me freedom and equanimity as this man.

I should get bored because he covers the same themes over and over and over… but I don’t.? I just get… happier.
