Business and Life Lessons from Anthony Joshua

Business and Life Lessons from Anthony Joshua

A big congratulation to Anthony Joshua the two time unified heavy weight champion of the world. Watching him win the fight on Saturday, even when he has been written off by the pundits was not only inspirational but shows character and mental strength.

The Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jnr rematch offers insights that are useful in all areas of life and that we can adopt in our personal lives, work place, offices and most importantly our businesses as we prepare for 2020.

Below are some of the few lessons and take away from the fight.

1. Failure is a BUS STOP on the road to success

Early this year, June precisely, when Anthony Joshua was roundly beaten by Ruiz and more shocking through a KO. A lot of pundits and naysayers have written off Anthony Joshua and predictions are already being made that this may be the beginning of the end of his career. The truth is we will all fail at something in life and the mathematical law of success is that the rate of failure is directly proportional to the chances of success.

Anybody who wants to be successful at anything must not be afraid of failing. Anthony Joshua did not allow the shock temporary defeat to Andy Ruiz Jnr in June to define him as a loser rather he saw it as an event, learnt from it, changed his style and came out on top on the 7th of December.

All too often we give up at the bus top before our destination because we are discouraged by an event or events of failure. However, like the story of the acres of diamond. We must not give up too soon, because sometimes we are just a few metres away from our Diamond.

Anthony Joshua recognised that being a champion isn't just about winning but having the right mental attitude in the time of failure. The lesson here is to develop the right mental attitude and be mentally strong when we face setbacks and obstacles. One of the secret weapon of Anthony Joshua in this rematch was his mental attitude

2.The second lesson is you can lose the battle but don’t lose the war.

Anthony Joshua lost the first fight, however, he studied his opponent, learnt from his mistakes and came with a new playbook this time around. In business just as it is in boxing, you may lose big deals to competitors, sometimes a competitor looks non displaceable but if you study the competitor well you will find a mix of strategy that gives you fighting chance. The lesson for us is to always learn from every encounter and continue to adjust our strategy, offering and contact with competitors until we are able to equalize the playing field.
