We help owners to Plan, Build and Secure their wealth with a focus on building massive value in their businesses.
Zinha Vetter and I recently travelled to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a small city in Bavaria, Germany. We were absolutely enchanted by the experience and the city offered us several unique business lessons as well:
Preservation and Promotion of Heritage
Rothenburg is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture. This has been leveraged to attract tourists from around the world, demonstrating how businesses can capitalize on local heritage and culture. When walking along the top of the wall encircling the city, there are endless plaques commemorating donors who valued the experience enough to donate to the city’s preservation.
Quality over Quantity
Despite being a small town, Rothenburg focuses on providing quality experiences to its visitors. This teaches businesses the importance of prioritizing quality over quantity. Throughout the town, we saw locals tirelessly engaged in providing a stellar, authentic experience of medieval life. Even our stay at Burg Hotel Rothenburg was an amazing experience. Our host, Otto, was there for us every day and, even in his 80s opened the hotel at 6:00 AM and closed up at 10:00 PM. He is one of eight generations of hoteliers!
Adaptation and Diversification
Local industries in Rothenburg are not confined to tourism. Other industries include machinery manufacturing, plastics, and publishing. This shows the importance of diversifying business operations to adapt to changing market conditions and opportunities.

Leveraging Seasonality
The town comes alive with various events and festivals throughout all seasons. This demonstrates how businesses can take advantage of seasonality to boost sales and customer engagement.
Community Engagement
The locals’ warmth and welcoming kindness add to the charm of the city. This highlights the value of community engagement in creating a positive customer experience. We experienced the whole spectrum of ages from children to seniors taking part.
Tourism as a Significant Economic Driver
Tourism plays a big part in the local economy, showing how businesses can harness the power of the heritage they have preserved using tourism for economic growth.
Remember, these lessons can be applied to various business contexts, not just those in Rothenburg or the tourism industry. It’s all about learning from different environments and adapting those lessons to your specific situation.
